The pH Regulator Probe
The pool pH regulator probe is the key element of the device; without it, there is no measurement or correction of the pool's pH. So, how and where to install this probe? How and why should it be maintained?
How to Set Up the pH Regulator Probe?
The probe is the most fragile element of the pH regulator, so care must be taken during handling. The installation is simple and straightforward. The probe is installed after the pool filter but before the salt electrolysis or any other automatic treatments and pH injection. It can be installed in two different ways: in the pool's technical room, directly on the pipeline, or in an analysis chamber. The probe is installed horizontally on the pipe (at the top of the pipeline) because its bulb must be permanently immersed.
On the return pipeline
If it's a renovation, you must, of course, cut off the power supply and close the water circulation valves.
A drill with its bit, and an adjustable wrench are the only tools needed. Teflon tape, a support collar suitable for the diameter of the pipeline and the probe holder, and a probe holder are the materials needed to install the pH probe.
Using the drill, create a hole in the pipeline, ensuring that the edges are smooth. Put Teflon tape on the probe holder's thread and screw it onto the support collar. Place the collar at the drilling level, making sure to use the sealing gasket, then fasten the collar with the 4 screw/nut attachments. Finally, gently insert the probe into the probe holder after calibration.
In an analysis chamber
The analysis chamber can be independent or integrated into the device. It allows centralizing one, two, or even three probes in one place. It better protects the probes than the first method, and the probe's lifespan can be doubled.
The installation of the analysis chamber varies depending on the model, either its installation is similar to that of a support collar, or it is connected to the pipeline with two union fittings. In this case, you need a saw, a stripper, blue glue... Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
How to Maintain the pH Regulation Probe?
A pH probe should be replaced approximately every 2 years, 4 if it is in an analysis chamber. Maintaining the probe increases its lifespan, and therefore, reduces your expenses.
The probe must not dry out; it must be constantly in contact with a liquid, pool water, or immersed in its initial solution.
If the bulb is dirty, it can distort the analysis. Therefore, the probe needs cleaning. Typically, this is done during the pH regulator's wintering.
To descale the probe, immerse it in 10% diluted hydrochloric acid for an hour and rinse it thoroughly with clean water.
Then, to eliminate algae and organic debris, leave it in a 2.6% bleach solution for an hour and again rinse it thoroughly with clean water.
If the cleaning is done during the season, reposition it in the probe holder. If it's during wintering, place the probe in its original case or in a saturated potassium chloride solution available at pharmacies.
The probe is undoubtedly the most fragile element of a pH regulator. To keep it at its maximum measurement and analysis capabilities, it is advisable to clean it at least once a year.
